Moi everyone, my name is Emiliano and I relocated to Finland few days ago. For the joy of all my friends and who think to relocate to a new country I decided that it would be a great idea to keep a diary of my new life here. But now lets end the “whys” and “hows” and let me introduce myself.
I am a 30-something Italian by birth and upbringing, during my university studies I have lived for 2 years in France, moved back to Italy to get my thesis degree in Molecular Biology and then moved for my PhD in London. After 2 years of London life I met my girlfriend Tyra, little I knew that I would have felt in love with the incredible character of my Finnswed girl. Despite cultural differences and a totally divergent background, me a researcher and she a fashion designer, we are clearly made for each other. At the end of her BA in fashion she decided to move back to Finland and here we are; I finished my PhD and I followed her to start a new chapter of my life.
I am not hiding that I am a bit nervous about the settling down period and the fact that in the last year I have been able to learn only how to count and say “Sorry, I don’t understand” in Finnish it does not help a lot. But hey, I moved to France without knowledge of the language and here I have Tyra and all her friends and family to baby-sit me if needed so chin-up and I’ll get it sorted. Anyway I am excited about the all experience and finding out everything I can about Finns and Finnish life-style.
I am in a very lucky position as I live in a flat in Helsinki, a glorious dream-flat in what is considered a glamorous area, and because Tyra’s mother live in the most beautiful forest surrounded house, a corner of paradise that won over also a sea-side brought up person like me. So I can experience both the city- and the country-side life style.
Despite I have visited Finland a few time for short period in the past couple of years, only now that I am living here I started to really look around and finding all the “exotic” things that are so new in my eyes. And you will be able to follow all of this while I figure them out.
Non mi dici mai niente… devo scoprirle da solo le cose
